It is exciting how before this extraordinary situation that Covid-19 has presented to us, the design of the Santa Faz chosen by the people of Alicante, reflects more than ever the situation that we were going to live on 23-04-2020 with the bishop’s blessing.
Communiqué and Petition of the bishop and the mayor of Alicante
“This year the Santa Faz will bless the people of Alicante from the Castle of Santa Barbara. The chapter of San Nicolás will transfer the Holy Relic to the city of Alicante, as it happened in past centuries during serious epidemics.
The Bishop of Orihuela-Alicante, Jesús Murgui, will officiate in the Monastery a Eucharist behind closed doors and broadcast on television. Afterwards, a small procession will go, carrying the Relic, to the Castle of Santa Bárbara, from where the bishop will bless the city around midday to the sound of the bells of all the parishes”.
As can be seen in the design chosen by the people of Alicante this year 2020. The Santa Faz would protect and bless Alicante from the castle.
